Shipibo Diet 14 Day Retreat in the Peruvian Jungle - September 11 - 24, 2022
Welcome to this 14 Day Retreat in the Jungle of Perú
The Shipibo-Conibo tribes are one of the ancient indigenous cultures of the Peruvian jungle. They live around the Río Ucayali which is the main headstream of the Amazon river.
The Tangóa family is one of the traditional shaman families of the Shipibo Community of Nueva Betania. The family consists of 8 brothers and 1 sister that learn their traditions directly from their parents and grandparents, and teach to the new generations.
The older ancient shamans were called Merayas. These are wisdom people that have the ability to preform many spiritual and physical healings. They are also in strong relations with nature, people say they even transform into animals, live inside the water and have different kinds of special powers.
In these current times, mostly exist the Onayas masters. The Onayas are the ones who refine their self-knowledge and perception of the “subtle” world, as well as communication with the intelligences of the plant kingdom. They know a lot about plants and medicine through their extensive diets with the plants and study in isolation. They also possess special healing powers and pray for the spirits of nature. Their culture stems back to around 5000 years ago.
We will arrive to their community by boat 2 to 3 hours up river. There they live in the ancient way, in their malocas, harvesting their food from their plantations and wild nature, also doing handicraft and some commercial activities in order to invest back into their community.
Sadly in the jungle, nature and ancestral communities many times are vulnerable to the invasion of transnational industries and illegal business. This is one of the reasons why we always see to give them visibility and support.
The Amazon jungle is a place of biodiversity of plants, animals and culture for all humanity.
About Dieting
During the 14 days, we will mostly eat one meal a day, with no salt or sugar, made of basic ingredients like rice, plantains, some fish and yucca.
The first 3 days we will ingest plants for purging and cleansing our system, like the Piñon and the Chuchuhuasa plants.
When
the body is clean, the shamans will determine what plants we will
continue dieting, usually this is with Ajoskiro or Ajosacha, especially
for first time dieters. We will also receive plant baths during the
days and participate in 3 or 4
Ayahuasca ceremonies during the diet (depending on each individual's progress).
Every morning we will commune with our assigned plants, and we may also smoke mapacho. These plants help us become very connected in a subtle way. We will start to dream alot and connect to our childhood memories, or our memory as souls. We start to feel the spirits and wisdom of nature, being in direct contact with the nature. This is a profound transformational life process.
During
these days the idea is to have little to no distraction, we will be
encouraged to be quiet, introspective and in concentration. We are use
to living
always doing something, always in a hurry. The diet will allow us to
just be present in connection
with nature. We will be encouraged let go of resistance and to connect
to our hearts and consciousness.
We will also connect and share with the Shipibo community, with the kids and families, to learn about their activities and share with them. It is such a beautiful opportunity to connect with them, learn their simple way of living, and experience their happiness and curiosity.
This experience may make us more sensible and authentic as humans beings.
After the 14 days we will be instructed to keep a post diet for 1 month at home, or the place we decide to go. We cannot eat anything sweet, even fruits, and no salt. We may eat vegetables, grains, beans, plantains and fish with two or three meals in the day. With no sexual relations during that month.
This is the way the energy of the plants remain in our body to facilitate
changes in our habits, ways of thinking and feeling, to be most close to
our souls and our light.
